Migration

Case 01 · Migration

Moving a core business application without a big-bang cutover

Customer: Mid-size business (anonymised) · Duration: ~3 months

A core line-of-business application needed to move off a constrained on-premise stack into a more observable cloud environment, without a risky single-day cutover.

Situation

A compact on-premise setup with basic monitoring, inconsistent peak-time performance and recovery steps that were not clearly written down.

What we did

Mapped dependencies, agreed a simple target design and migrated the workloads in small waves, each with a checklist, validation steps and an agreed rollback plan.

Outcome

The application now runs in a more observable environment with clearer runbooks, defined ownership and a repeatable migration pattern for similar systems.

Disaster recovery

Case 02 · Disaster recovery

Turning informal backups into a testable DR plan

Customer: Services organisation (anonymised) · Duration: ~6 weeks

Backups for key systems existed, but there was no single view of how to restore them, who would do what or what recovery time was realistic.

Situation

Backups were configured, yet the recovery steps, responsibilities and acceptable recovery windows were not written down or tested as a complete scenario.

What we did

Reviewed existing practices, agreed practical RPO/RTO targets and wrote a concise DR pattern focusing on the most important workloads, then ran at least one test.

Outcome

The organisation now has a documented DR approach, a tested failover scenario and a roadmap for extending coverage to additional systems.

Case 03 · Managed operations

Bringing a bit of structure to everyday cloud operations

Customer: Product company (anonymised) · Ongoing engagement

Incidents, changes and cost reviews were handled differently by each team, and there was no shared view of overall health or where the main risks were.

Situation

Operations were largely reactive, with limited shared dashboards and no consistent rhythm for reviewing incidents, changes or spend.

What we did

Introduced a small set of dashboards, lightweight on-call expectations and a simple cadence for incident reviews and periodic cost discussions.

Outcome

Day-to-day operations are more predictable, with clearer ownership and better visibility into where to invest in reliability and cost optimisation.
